Winter Fair

Cold and very windy, with gusts that can exceed 60 mph on the peaks. Clear days are spectacular.

Spring Prime

Good hiking weather between windy spells. Wildflowers appear in wetter years.

Summer Fair

Hot in the lowlands, with afternoon storms, though the high country stays cooler.

Fall Good

The best season. Maples in McKittrick Canyon peak from late October to mid-November, a rare sight in the Texas desert.
