Saguaro by season

Winter Prime

Peak season, with sunny days in the 60s and 70s. It's ideal for hiking.

Spring Prime

Wildflowers in March and April. Saguaros bloom with white flowers from late April into June.

Summer Poor

Extreme heat, often over 105°F. Monsoon storms in July and August are dramatic but dangerous.

Fall Good

Heat lingers into October. November is lovely again.

Local tip

The park has two separate districts on opposite sides of Tucson. The west is better for sunsets and the densest saguaro forests; the east is better for longer hikes.

Good to know

Saguaro cacti can live more than 150 years and don't usually grow their first arm until they're 50 to 70 years old.
