Great Smoky Mountains by season

Winter Fair

Quiet, often snowy at high elevations. Some roads, including the road to Kuwohi (Clingmans Dome), close for winter.

Spring Prime

Wildflowers peak in April and May; the Smokies are known as the 'Wildflower National Park.' Synchronous fireflies appear in late May and June.

Summer Good

Hot and crowded at lower elevations. Escape to the high ridges.

Fall Prime

Famous color, usually peaking in mid-to-late October at lower elevations. Expect heavy traffic.
