Isle Royale by season

Winter Poor

Closed from November 1 to mid-April. Only researchers studying wolves and moose remain.

Spring Poor

Opens in mid-April, but ferries start in May. It's cold, and black flies can be intense in June.

Summer Prime

The main season for backpacking and paddling. Lake Superior keeps temperatures cool.

Fall Fair

September is the best month: fewer bugs, fall color and moose activity. The park closes at the end of October.
